History of West Philadelphia Catholic Girls’ Alumnae Association
West Philadelphia Catholic Girls’ High School Alumnae Association was formed in 1928 and elected Margaret Logan as the first President.
The purpose of the Association is to promote the spiritual and social welfare of its members and to render financial aid to educate young women at West Catholic Preparatory High School.
The current officers of the Association are:
- President—Pat McLaughlin, ’61
- Vice President—Sr. Denise Ware, SFCC, ’70
- Treasurer—Maria Petolicchio, ’62
- Recording Secretary—Cathy Maugeri, ’71
- Corresponding Secretary—Rose Frank Brooks, ’61
- Membership Officer–Kirsti Flemming Bradford, ’74
- Merchandise Officer–Pat Nachbar, ’69
- Communications Officer–Pat McLaughlin. ’61
The Officers are elected for a 2-year term.
The Alumnae Board is comprised of one to six members of each graduating class. The Board meets monthly on the second Sunday of each month, excluding July and August.
Membership in the Association is open to all graduates of West Philadelphia Catholic Girls’ High School and all female graduates of West Catholic High School and West Catholic Preparatory High School.
There are two categories of membership: Active and Inactive. Active members are all alumnae who have paid the $15 annual dues for the current calendar year.
The official newspaper of the Association is “The Harvester”. It is published bi-annually in the Spring and the Fall.
The Alumnae Association sponsors several events throughout the year:
- A Communion Breakfast is held on the 4th Sunday of October.
- A Spring Luncheon.
- As well as, other fund-raising activities.
All of the events are announced in “The Harvester” and on this website. All members are welcome to attend.
In addition to fund raising activities, the Alumnae Association also offers annual scholarships to Catholic female students with financial needs. The students are selected by the School Administration in conjunction with the Alumnae Scholarship Committee.
